Coastal zones
North Cliff Line
Steeper, cliff-backed shoreline with stronger scenic value, less visible tidal swing, and more exposed access.
South & East Tidal Fringe
Low-lying coast with wide tidal movement, exposed sand, and fast-changing walkable space around low water.
South Sheltered Bays
More sheltered south coast bays that tend to hold comfortable swimming and family conditions when the wind is moderate.
West Exposure Belt
More exposed Atlantic-facing coast where strong westerlies quickly reduce comfort for casual visits.
About
A quick check before heading to the coast
I built this because I often want a fast answer before going for a walk: where is the tide, how much beach is likely to be available, and which coast looks most comfortable right now.
It started as a small vibe-coding project by a software developer and turned into a practical Jersey coast helper. The rankings are estimates built from public tide, weather, and beach information.
Treat this as a guide, not a safety source. Live feeds can be delayed, missing, or wrong, and local conditions can change quickly. Check the official forecast, signs, lifeguard advice, and what you can see on the beach before relying on it.
Live conditions checked
13:00
Tide and weather refresh from the live feeds every 15 minutes. Optional official readings are hidden when their source feed has not refreshed.
SourcesWhere the information comes from
Live rankings adapt the sources below into indicative scores. Coast Now is not an official weather, tide, navigation, or safety service; check official forecasts, signs, lifeguard advice, and local conditions before relying on it.
Tide and current height
Current tide, estimated height, next high, next low, and tide trend are adapted from Government of Jersey / Jersey Met feeds.
Weather and wind
Temperature, rain probability, UV, sunrise, sunset, and day-part wind forecasts are adapted from Government of Jersey / Jersey Met feeds. Open-Meteo fills hourly condition, wind, gust, and precipitation gaps.
Map and coastal context
Terrain and beach-space logic are broad heuristics. The map view uses OpenStreetMap tiles with contributor attribution.
